At 11:30 am on the 29th May 1953, Tenzing Norgay Sherpa and Edmund Hillary reached the summit of Mount Everest from Nepal via the Western Cwm and South Col.

Many events are planned to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Mt Everest climb. This site is an attempt to collect the information about all these events.

As we recognise Tenzing and Hillary, we should not ignore the contribution of the entire 1953 expedition team: leader Sir John Hunt, Charles Evans and Tom Bourdillon, who were the first to reach the South Summit, and Dawa Tenzing and the other Sherpas who contributed to the expedition's success.

If you are aware of other events and books that commemorate the climb, please email webmaster@29may1953.com so that we may include them here.
